The Course

Nefyn and District Golf Club was formed in 1907 The course was converted from 9 holes to 18 holes in 1912 and after many minor transformations, a further 9 holes were added in 1933 (only 26 holes are now being played). The course now consists of a front 10 holes and two distinctly different back 8 holes.

It is a proud boast of the club and its members that you can see the sea from every tee on the course. The epithet "This is the most beautiful course I have ever played" has come both from visitors from all over the world and from many critical reviews in books and magazines.

The first 10 holes of the course have the 2nd, 3rd and 4th holes bordering on cliffs. The 5th hole has a spectacular tee jutting out over the sea. The route back to the clubhouse from the 6th onwards, looking over both sea and mountains, has some of the best views of the surrounding scenery on the course. On favourable days, it is even possible to see the tops of the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland.

The "New Course" is a Par 71 and measures 6548 yards off the White Tees. The "New Course" back 8 follows gently rolling fairways with strategically placed bunkers and some challenging rough for the wayward player. The 5th is a Par 4 dog-leg left, with a relatively long carry across AOB to cut off the corner.

The "Old Course" is a Par 70/71 and measures 6138 yards off the White Tees. The back 8 follows the peninsular which surrounds Porth Dinllaen bay and gives spectacular views of both the surrounding bay and cliffs. In the far distance, both Anglesey and Snowdonia can be seen on most days. The 13th hole on the "Old Course" is very challenging, where the brave (or foolish) and the long can "go for it" across the cliffs. The 14th on the Old Course is probably the signature hole for this part of the course, with fantastic views over Porth Dinllaen Bay, towards the Rivals and Anglesey.
